What is a "caboose"?
A caboose is a small railroad car that is typically attached to the end of a freight train. It was historically used as a place for the train crew to work and rest during long trips. The caboose often included a small office, sleeping area, and lookout platform, where crew members could observe the rest of the train for safety reasons, such as checking for problems like overheating axles. Cabooses were also used to carry tools and equipment needed for train operations. Though less common today, cabooses were once an essential part of train operations, especially for freight trains.
