シャレ(xare), バスクの伝統的なラケットスポーツ
a traditional Basque racket sport played with a ball and a wooden racket
What is "xare"?
Xare is a traditional Basque sport played using a special racket made of wicker or chestnut wood, which has a net woven across it. The objective of the game is to strike a ball with the racket against the front wall of a court, called a trinquete, while ensuring the opposing team cannot return it. The ball can bounce multiple times or even roll on the roof of the court's facade. Xare is commonly played by two teams, each consisting of two players. It is a sport with deep cultural roots, particularly popular in the Basque Country.
