During the test, a small amount of a radioactive substance is injected into the body. This substance is absorbed by the tissues and sends out tiny particles called positrons. A special camera then identifies these particles and creates detailed images showing how the body's organs and tissues are working. PET scans are often used to diagnose and monitor conditions like cancer, heart disease, and brain disorders.
