What is "pole vault"?

Pole vault is a track and field event where an athlete uses a pole, typically made of fiberglass or carbon fiber, to propel themselves over a high bar. The athlete runs towards the bar, plants the pole into a box at the end of the runway, and uses it to launch themselves into the air in an attempt to clear the bar without knocking it down. The height of the bar is raised after each successful attempt, and the athlete who clears the highest bar wins. Pole vault requires a combination of speed, strength, agility, and precise technique to manage the jump and safely clear the bar.
