A surgical technician is a healthcare professional who helps surgeons and other members of the surgical team during surgical procedures. These professionals are responsible for preparing the operating room, disinfecting and arranging surgical instruments and equipment, and making sure that everything is ready for the surgery. During the procedure, surgical technicians pass instruments and supplies to the surgeon and surgical assistants, maintain a disinfected space, and collect and manage sample for laboratory analysis. They also help with patient positioning and transporting patients to and from the operating room.
