It is a large deer species, with males, known as stags or bucks, weighing up to 500 kilograms (1100 pounds) and standing up to 1.5 meters (5 feet) tall at the shoulder. Red deer are known for their reddish-brown coat, which is typically darker in males during the breeding season.
