What is "polymyositis"?
Polymyositis is a rare inflammatory disease that affects skeletal muscles, which are the muscles that control conscious movements, causing muscle weakness, pain, and fatigue. This condition can make it difficult to perform everyday tasks such as climbing stairs, lifting objects, or getting up from a chair. Polymyositis can also cause difficulty swallowing and breathing in intense cases. While the exact cause of polymyositis is not fully understood, it is believed to involve an abnormal immune system response that attacks healthy muscle tissue.
