What is the origin of the idiom "place in the sun" and when to use it?
The idiom "place in the sun" is traceable to a speech made on December 6, 1897, at the Imperial Diet by the German statesman Bernhard von Bülow, who had just been appointed Foreign Secretary. In the speech, he stated, "We desire to throw no one into the shade, but we also demand our own place in the sunlight."
