What is a "tanager"?
A tanager is a diverse and vibrant bird species found primarily in the Americas. These small to medium-sized birds are known for their striking plumage, displaying a wide range of colors including shades of red, orange, yellow, blue, and black. Tanagers inhabit various habitats, from forests and woodlands to open fields and gardens, depending on the species. They have a varied diet, feeding on fruits, seeds, insects, and nectar. Tanagers are highly agile and adept at maneuvering through the vegetation, often seen foraging in the canopy or mid-levels of trees. They have melodious songs, with each species having its own unique vocalizations. Tanagers are social birds and can often be found in small flocks, especially during migration or in the non-breeding season.
