omega-3
What is "omega-3"?
Omega-3 fatty acids are a type of polyunsaturated fat that is essential for human health. They are considered "essential" because the body cannot produce them on its own and must obtain them from food. Omega-3 fatty acids play crucial roles in brain function, heart health, and overall well-being. There are three main types of omega-3 fatty acids: alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). ALA is found in plant sources like flaxseeds, chia seeds, and walnuts, while EPA and DHA are primarily found in fatty fish like salmon, mackerel, and sardines. Consuming omega-3 fatty acids has been associated with numerous health benefits, including reducing inflammation, lowering the risk of heart disease, and supporting brain health.
