What is a "sphygmomanometer"?
A sphygmomanometer is a medical device used to measure blood pressure. It includes a cuff that becomes bigger when filled with air, a digital or numbered display to read the pressure, and a pump to add air to the cuff. By pumping air into the cuff and slowly releasing it, healthcare providers can check systolic pressure, which is the highest blood pressure recorded when the heart's chambers push out blood, and diastolic pressure, which is the lowest pressure measured just before the heart pushes out blood again. Sphygmomanometers are essential tools in medical settings for diagnosing high blood pressure and monitoring cardiovascular health.
