What is "chronic fatigue syndrome"?
Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), also known as myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME), is a complex and weakening condition characterized by extreme fatigue that does not improve with rest and lasts for at least six months. Other common symptoms may include muscle pain, joint pain, headaches, and difficulty concentrating or remembering things. The exact cause of CFS is unknown, but it is believed to involve a combination of factors, including viral infections, immune system dysfunction, and psychological stress. There is currently no cure for CFS, but treatment focuses on managing symptoms and improving quality of life. This may involve a combination of medications, lifestyle changes, and therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and graded exercise therapy (GET).
