Deep square leg is a fielding position in cricket, located on the side of the field, behind the batter, near the boundary. The fielder in this position stands farther away from the batter, ready to catch or stop any balls hit to the side or over the square leg area. If the batter hits the ball high or deep in this direction, the deep square leg fielder tries to catch it or prevent it from going over the boundary for four runs.
