What is an "oratorio"?
An oratorio is a large-scale musical composition written for soloists, choir, and orchestra. Unlike an opera, it is performed without staging, costumes, or acting. Oratorios are usually based on religious or biblical themes and are often performed in concert settings. They consist of multiple movements, often structured similarly to a symphony or suite, and are designed to convey a narrative or explore a particular religious or spiritual theme.
