What are "growing pains"?

Growing pains are discomfort or achy sensations often experienced by children, typically in the legs or arms. They are usually mild and occur in the evening or at night, sometimes disturbing sleep. Growing pains are not associated with growth spurts themselves but may be related to increased physical activity or muscle fatigue. While they can be uncomfortable, growing pains are considered a normal part of childhood development and generally do not indicate any serious underlying medical condition. They usually resolve on their own without the need for medical intervention, but gentle massage, stretching, or over-the-counter pain relievers can help ease the discomfort.
