Dido is a character from ancient mythology, primarily known from Roman literature. She was the queen and founder of Carthage, a powerful city in North Africa. According to the myth, Dido fell in love with the Trojan hero Aeneas, who was destined to leave Carthage and continue his journey to Italy. Dido’s love for Aeneas led to tragic consequences; when he departed, she was heartbroken and took her own life. Her story, most famously told in Virgil's epic, the "Aeneid", explores themes of love, betrayal, and the conflicts between personal desires and duty.
