What is a "plug and feather"?
Plug and feather is a technique used for splitting or breaking stone or concrete. It involves inserting small, wedge-shaped pieces of metal, called feathers, into pre-drilled holes along a crack or seam in the material. A round metal plug is then driven between the feathers using a hammer. The force from the plug pushes the feathers outward, causing the material to crack and split along the desired line. This method is often used in stone masonry or quarrying to break large stones into smaller, more manageable pieces.
