What is a "sambar"?
The sambar is a majestic deer species that is found in various parts of Asia, including India, Southeast Asia, and China. They are known for their large size, with males often weighing over 600 kg (1300 lbs) and standing around 1.5 meters (5 feet) tall at the shoulder. Sambar deer have a powerful build, with a stocky body, long legs, and a shaggy coat that can vary in color from dark brown to grayish-brown. They also have impressive antlers, with males typically sporting long, curved beams with multiple points. Sambar deer are known to be solitary animals, preferring dense forests and grasslands as their habitats. They are herbivores, feeding on a variety of plants and fruits.
