What is "basal ganglion"?
The basal ganglion, also known as the basal nuclei, is a collection of interconnected structures located deep within the brain. It plays a crucial role in controlling voluntary movements, as well as in aspects of cognition and emotion. The basal ganglion receives input from various regions of the brain and helps regulate the initiation, coordination, and execution of motor activities. Dysfunction of the basal ganglion can lead to movement disorders such as Parkinson's disease and Huntington's disease.
