Stratum basale
01
estrato basal
the deepest layer of the epidermis where new skin cells are formed
What is "stratum basale"?
The stratum basale is the innermost layer of the epidermis, composed of basal cells that actively divide and give rise to new skin cells. It serves as a crucial part of the skin's regenerative process, providing a constant supply of cells that migrate upwards to replenish the upper layers of the epidermis. The stratum basale also contains melanocytes, which produce the pigment melanin responsible for skin coloration and protection against harmful UV radiation.
