What is an "echocardiogram"?
An echocardiogram is an image or recording of the heart created using sound waves. This image is produced during an echocardiography procedure, where a device called a transducer sends sound waves through the chest. The sound waves bounce off the heart and are used to create detailed pictures that show how the heart is beating, how well it is pumping blood, and how the heart valves are functioning.
