Force play
01
kényszerített játék, kényszerhelyzet
(baseball) a situation where a defensive player forces a baserunner out by touching a base with the ball before the baserunner reaches that base
What is a "force play"?
A force play in baseball or softball happens when a runner is required to advance to the next base because there is another runner behind them. The defensive team can get the runner out by throwing the ball to the base they are forced to run to, and the player at the base catches the ball before the runner gets there. The runner does not need to be tagged; they are out simply because they are forced to run to the base. Force plays are common in situations where there are runners on base and the batter becomes a runner.
