A slot receiver is a player in American football who lines up in the area between the wide receiver and the offensive line, often referred to as the "slot." This player’s role is to run shorter routes and catch passes from the quarterback. Slot receivers are usually quick and good at making sharp turns to get open in tight spaces. They are important for gaining yards in short passing plays and helping the team move the ball forward.
