What is a "line drive"?
A line drive in baseball or softball is a hit that travels quickly and straight through the air, usually at a low angle. The ball is hit hard and in a direct path, making it difficult for fielders to catch. A line drive can be a good way to get on base because of its speed and precision. If the ball is caught by a fielder before it hits the ground, it counts as an out, but if it lands in the field, it may result in a hit or possibly even an extra base.
