What is a "hummingbird"?
A hummingbird is a small, enchanting bird known for its remarkable flying abilities and vibrant plumage. Native to the Americas, hummingbirds are characterized by their rapid wingbeats, which can exceed 50 beats per second, allowing them to hover in mid-air and maneuver with exceptional agility. Their unique name comes from the humming sound produced by their wings in flight. Hummingbirds are renowned for their iridescent feathers that shimmer with brilliant hues of red, green, blue, and gold, creating a dazzling display when caught in sunlight. These birds have a specialized long, slender beak that allows them to extract nectar from flowers, which serves as their primary source of nutrition.
